How it is worked out

Mean load per tyre is the average of loaded and empty, because the machine spends about half its cycle each way. Multiply by the mean speed and that is the site figure. The temperature correction scales with speed, because what it is really correcting is the airflow over the tyre: hotter air carries less heat away, and a slow truck has less airflow to lose.

What it does not account for

Grade, road surface, inflation pressure, rubber compound, how the load sits, and how much tread is left. It is the standard calculation, not a simulation — an input to a decision rather than the decision. If the answer is close, ask the tyre maker.
